A Virtual Town Hall Meeting: Responding to the Legal Issues Facing Schools as a Result of COVID-19

The coronavirus has inflicted unforeseen financial, instructional and social challenges for all schools and BOCES. We have new and complex federal employment laws, changes to NYS regulations, and numerous Executive Orders being promulgated at a frenzied pace. The 2020-2021 budget situation remains unsettled with the possibility of significant mid-year reductions in aid. This has led to confusion, misinformation and general questions about what schools can and cannot do.

As a service to our school district and BOCES clients, Ferrara Fiorenza PC is hosting a town hall style webinar at 9:00 a.m. on May 7, 2020. Experienced school attorneys will provide straightforward and practical compliance suggestions, as well as respond to participants’ questions, on the following topics:

  • Staff reductions in the face of budgetary restraints
  • Collective bargaining in an uncertain economic climate
  • Education Law 2-d compliance
  • Implementing capital projects under Executive Orders
  • Providing special education during and as a result of school closure
  • Conducting the annual meeting, election and budget vote

This virtual town hall meeting is complementary to our clients.
